The Place Casa Nizza Ortigia by the Sea

“Whenever we leave home it is because of an overwhelming, but possibly unconscious yearning to rediscover ancient roots and new or forgotten emotions. Thus finding the perfect place to stay becomes crucial in our quest to nourish our souls. In Ortigia, the prestigious heart of the UNESCO town of Siracusa lies this perfect place - “Casa Nizza”.

My grandfather purchased the palazzo just over 90 years ago, and it was inhabited by my family for several years. Then for at least 50 years it remained untouched until I began the first renovations 28 years ago. The restoration of the Palazzo was aimed at the conservation, recovery and enhancement of its original structural characteristics, and with thoughtful, imaginative touches, I moved the old palazzo into the 21st century without compromising its remarkable past.

I offer three unique apartments which I decorated and furnished in collaboration with a well-known architect and a very talented artist. In each apartment you will find that the vestiges of the past merge seamlessly with all modern comforts. Each suite is equipped with Air Conditioning and WI-FI Internet access. They are all as well furnished with beautiful linens and other homy comforts. A small but lush common courtyard beckons you to sit and relax. You reach the ample terrace on the first floor via an outside staircase. Comfortably seated on the garden furniture, you can enjoy the fresh breezes of the Ionian Sea and marvel at its ever-changing shades of blue.

My flats are located in the area known as the "Giudecca"-- the old Jewish quarter and we are just a short stroll from one of the oldest Jewish baths (miqweh) in Europe. We overlook the solarium Forte Vigliena, where you can cool off in pristine waters while just minutes from restaurants, bars and shops. The Fountain of Arethusa, Archimedes square, Piazza Duomo, Temple of Apollo and the historic open market are all within easy reach. A car is simply not necessary in Ortigia. Getting lost in its alleys is part of the charm of the island!

Today many buildings and homes of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries have been restored along with the reopening of hotels and meeting places.

I live on the premises, and oversee all aspects of the management and maintenance of my three lovely flats. I am fluent in English and Italian and am always available to my guests. If you wish to meet interesting people, get recommendations on where to dine, explore the island, shop, find entertainment, I am always happy and willing to help. I am sure you will find at Casa Nizza everything you need to “nourish your soul” - comfort, style, location, history and an accommodating host.
